Self-Limiting Beliefs

17.04.2023

Does that belief serve you? I recently heard this question and thought wow, what a great question. How often do hundreds of unquestioned beliefs limit our actions? And most of the time, we are entirely unaware of them. For Example: My wife and I cleared the grass growing up through our tree's plant bed this weekend. For two-plus years I resigned myself to the idea that It is what it is, and that no matter what I do the grass will always grow through. Then my wife talked about removing the plant/vine around the tree, and I decided to find a way to get the grass out. I did two things. First, I cut out a space between the grass and plant, and second, instead of using the weedwhacker, I got in the bed and started removing the grass by hand from the root. Below is a picture after we worked on it. I still have some grass to get out, but it is a significant improvement from what it was before. Successful Selling Starts With Belief

17.01.2023

(image of my daughter Ellie, who grabbed my book while I was changing her diaper) The first sale is to yourself. The problem with belief and certainty is that it is not a one-time event but a muscle that needs daily training. A salesperson may start strong, have a high level of enthusiasm for their product/service, and have some successful selling, but how do they react when they hit a slump or no's start to come in? If you are not cultivating certainty and belief in yourself and what you sell, the weeds of self-doubt will eventually overtake you. And when they do, we settle for comfort, stop prospecting, and create reasons to justify our situation. BTW, Everyone is in sales. By Eric Papp

Impact of Not Honoring Your Word

30.08.2022

We may not see or feel the immediate impact when we don't honor our word. But it's there.   For example, you tell yourself. I want to start exercising more. Yeah, I need to exercise.   I will get up early and walk before I go to work.   And maybe you tell your spouse. Honey, tomorrow I'm going for a walk in the morning.  And you are excited about this new possibility.  Tomorrow comes, and what happens? You hit the snooze button, and you talk yourself out of it.   You break a promise to yourself.   You may think, it's no big deal or so what. But the next time you attempt it again, this time, you hear SLT or Self-Limiting Talk. You can't do that; why bother? You already tried and failed. You'll be too tired and end up hitting the snooze button. And the future of excitement is now one of dread and unease because you don't know if you will fulfill it.     Every time we break a promise to ourselves, our self-confidence diminishes. And over time, our word carries little impact. We become hesitant to try new things ...

Sleep/Naps

21.06.2022

I intellectually understood the importance of sleep, but after having another newborn in the house (Cole is four weeks today), I experienced the value of it.   Sleep can benefit us in numerous ways: Regulate our mood Boost our immune system Increase our productivity Improve our memory Reduce our stress   Why does our culture still seem to view sleep as a necessary evil? If you take naps in some circles, why are you deemed lazy?   Perhaps we still think we can power through, drink more caffeine, or binge our favorite tv show at night and not feel any ramifications.   I invite you to get more rest this week and see if you notice the impact.   Tips for getting more sleep: Go to bed 30 minutes earlier Stop using your phone 30 minutes before bedtime Do one 10-minute guided mediation after lunch   What is preventing you from getting more sleep or naps? Identify your obstacle, and you’ll create your custom solution.   by Keynote Speaker & Author, Eric Papp

Prioritizing Through Intuition

18.06.2022

Many of us jump from one activity to the next throughout our day. As a result, our day seems like one giant to-do list. We become human-doings. What do I have to do? What's next?  Where do I have to be right now? Dominate our thoughts.   If we don’t allow space/time for intuition, we become "crazy busy”, and default to lazy thinking. When we stop and analyze our daily activities, and examine all the "have to" items, we will see that we have more control than we think. I like to think of Prioritization as a muscle. If you use it, it gets stronger and serves you. If you don't, it withers away, and someone else prioritizes your life for you. The #1 way to better prioritize is to develop your intuition.   Intuition: The intersection of your head and heart.   The busier you are, the more critical it is to build space in your day. This allows you to reflect and examine “where have I been” and “where am I headed”?   "Intuition is a very powerful thing, more powerful than intellect, in my opinion," Jobs told writer Walt ...
